Sick When Moving? Here’s What to Do

Posted on 25/09/2024

A woman with light skin and brown hair, appears unwell, lying on a beige sofa with her eyes closed and holding a tissue to her nose, indicating illness. She is covered with a cream-colored quilt, wearing a grey long-sleeved top, with her left hand resting on her forehead. In front of her on a nearby table, there is a glass of water, a pack of tissues, and a lemon wedge, suggesting she has been managing her illness at home. The background shows a neutral-colored wall, and part of a white object, possibly a remote or decorative item, is visible. This scene takes place indoors, likely in a living room setting, during daylight hours, and is related to the context of health issues during a house move or home relocation, emphasizing the importance of careful planning and additional support during such times, as discussed on www.manandvanstar.co.uk.

Sometimes we get ill at the most inappropriate times. Moving house is among the least favourable times to be sick, but it does happen sometimes and you need to figure out a way to get healthier before the man and van arrive to get you going. Depending on how much time you have till moving day, you could do several things, but the most important one of all is to stay cool and don’t lose your mind. Domestic removals come with enough stress as it is and your body does not need any more anxiety to handle. Here is what you can do to get better before the man with van’s arrival:

Get Some Sleep

You’d be surprised, but a lot of people actually don’t get enough sleep because of all the stress which house relocation brings. Make sure you get your healthy dose of sleep in the week before the move and you might even avoid getting sick in the first place – as often that is actually the cause for going down ill in the first place. Sleep takes care of your body, so having restless nights will help you with nothing.

A woman with blonde hair sleeping peacefully on her side in a bed, with her head resting on a white pillow and her arm gently positioned near her face. Behind her, a man with short hair is also sleeping on his side, partially visible. The bed is covered with white bedding, and the room appears bright with natural light, creating a calm and restful atmosphere. This image emphasizes comfort and relaxation during home rest in a bedroom setting, which may relate to household routines during a move. Man and Van Star’s removals services support smooth moving experiences, even when residents are resting or unwell, as illustrated by this serene sleeping scene in a typical home environment.

Stay Clear of the Packing

Packing often involves a lot of dust and germs. If you are already ill, you will do better to either use packing services from the removal company or have somebody else from the house do the packing. The more detached you are from the hard work which it involves, the healthier you will be when the man with a van team comes to start the whole shindig.

Take Regular Breaks

Never overexert yourself. Another cause of sickness in people who are moving home is the constant activity and never finding time to take breaks. Rest whenever possible and drink healthy doses of tea. Overworking yourself will be no good for you when the move gets started and you have no strength to see it through.

A young couple with light skin and dark hair, seen from behind, sitting on a light-colored sofa inside a home surrounded by stacked cardboard moving boxes of varying sizes. The woman has long blonde hair and is wearing a green top, while the man has short dark hair and is wearing a white T-shirt. They are leaning against each other with the man's arm around the woman’s shoulders, observing the packing process. In the background, there is a large potted plant on top of additional boxes, and the room is well-lit with natural light. This scene captures a moment during house relocation and packing, with the couple preparing for a house move, supported by a professional removals service such as Man and Van Star, who specialises in furniture transport and moving logistics.

Get Proper Medicine

If you have encountered the disease or whatever you are struggling with, get the proper medicine and make sure to take it regularly. Don’t take too much, of course – you do not want to get woozy while you are carrying boxes or travelling. If you are taking medicine, of course, you should stay away from driving and let somebody else do that job. And always keep the medicine bag near you.

A variety of medication bottles, blister packs containing capsules and tablets, and pill organizers are arranged on a white surface, with some bottles standing upright and others lying on their sides. The medication containers include plastic jars with screw caps, blister packs of capsules with multi-coloured coatings, and small white containers, some with labels. The scene appears to be set indoors, possibly in a home environment, with the medicines ready for packing during a house move. The arrangement is neat but casual, reflecting the process of organizing and preparing personal pharmaceutical supplies for relocation. As part of a home relocation or furniture transport in a moving process, the medications and packaging materials are likely to be packed carefully into boxes for transportation, with Man and Van Star providing removals services, including packing and loading of personal belongings.

Consult a Doctor

If none of the above is doing the trick, you should immediately see your GP. The doctor needs to check your condition and even see if you are healthy enough to move at all – it may be so that you would have to postpone the move, or just go to the new place and let somebody reliable handle the rest. Sometimes you just cannot go on and you need to think about yourself and not the relocation.

Get Help

Never, ever, ever do the move yourself if you are not feeling well. Always have help, otherwise you are risking not being ready when the man and a van arrive at the very least – and being completely incapable to move, if you did not do any of the aforementioned. Call your neighbour, a friend, a family member, a co-worker – anybody that could and would help. You need rest.

Inside a residential property, a person wearing blue trousers and dark shoes is partially visible, standing next to a modern grey fabric sofa that is elevated on wooden blocks. The background shows a white kitchen unit with a countertop, a kettle, and electrical outlets. On the wooden floor in front of the sofa, several cardboard boxes of various sizes are arranged, some with flaps open or partially sealed, indicating packing or unpacking activity typical of home relocation. Towels or packing paper bits are visible inside and beside some boxes. The scene depicts a household during a furniture transport or packing and moving process, with the focus on the boxes and sofa preparing for or in the midst of a house removal. Man and Van Star is involved in this furniture transport and relocation service, supporting efficient loading and transport procedures.

Make sure to stay healthy. No matter how much work you have to do or how much packing you need to do, your health comes first. Deal with that and then see to your house removals. After all, you want to be able to move yourself before you move your house.
